Matcha Mate: The Fit Foodie

For this month's Matcha Mail, Matcha Maiden had the privilege of sitting down with the beautiful Sally O' Neil aka The Fit Foodie!!!
Born in the UK, Sally moved to Australia a few years ago to enjoy a little more sunshine and has been the gift that keeps on giving for the Australian health foodie population!

Her beautiful blog,
The Fit Foodie blog, is a hub for all things healthy, fit, stylish, aspirational and influential. Sharing her passion for wellbeing and fitness, her mission is to give us the information and inspiration to feel nourished and happy. On top of this, she has an amazing range of DIY protein ball pre-mixes, Fit Mixes, which are vegan, fructose free, wheat free, soy free, dairy free, high protein and 100% natural. AMAZING!

Everyone, meet Sally....

1. What food item could you absolutely not live without?

Homemade raw chocolate. It gets drizzled on EVERYTHING.

2. Do you ever eat junk food? If so, what's your weakness?

I don’t have anything against the odd indulgence, but I genuinely don’t love the taste of junk food anymore! I used to eat packets of biscuits for dinner (eek, I know), but now my weakness is homemade banana ice cream and raw cakes. The salted caramel slice from About Life is mind blowing.

3. Do you like eating out or prefer to cook?

I definitely prefer to cook. Although my kitchen in the city is tiny, I love getting creative with strange food combinations, or learning to ‘healthify’ (not a real word) traditional treats. I’m still on a mission to perfect a healthy Matcha Kit-Kat, but that damn wafer eludes me. Watch this space on the blog...

4. What's your favourite cuisine?

It has to be Japanese food for it’s mix of fresh seafood and delicious sauce combos.

5. What's your favourite matcha related recipe?

It has to be my morning cacao + matcha + maca smoothie. It gives me a little bit of umph in a morning when i’m changing up my usual coffee routine! Blend 1/2 tsp Matcha, 1 tbsp cacao, 1 tsp maca powder, 1 cup water, handful of ice, 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk.

6. Name the weirdest/most unique thing about you.

I’m trained in musical theatre and used to record songs in a music studio back in the UK. I have some amazing jazz hands.

7. Craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Having a picnic in the bottom of the Grand Canyon after flying in by helicopter. Best. View. Ever.

8. Did you always know this was where you'd end up?

Never. I didnt even know what blogging was until I started recording recipes online. I thought they just for yummy mummies who needed a space to vent. I also used to eat a lot of garbage. BLogging about health food just wasn’t on my radar, but living in Australia completely changed my philosophy on food and made me value my health. It’s been life -changing. The fact that so many people follow me along for the ride is so humbling.

9. Favourite quote?

'Comparison is the thief of joy’ - Theodore Roosevelt

10. Best tip for aspiring health food bloggers?

Be yourself. Your personality is your biggest selling point. There’s a LOT of people who can make a good raw cheesecake, but no one who can explain it in the way you would. You’re unique and you need to let that shine through. Oh, and get on instagram ;)
