5 Winter Makeup Secrets!

beauty makeuptips matchamaiden natural winter

While the mercury temperatures are climbing here in Australia, our much-loved Northern Hemisphere Maidens are battling snowstorms, brisk winds and heavy rain! As much as we love making snow angels and cozying up by a warm fire, it can be a struggle to keep our faces looking fresh and radiant. Just like in the summer, the winter conditions can damage skin and leave our makeup looking worn out.

Once again, we are here to share with you some tips and tricks from the industry (as well as product recommendations from the experts) that will help your makeup last from the chilly mornings to frosty evenings!

1) Conceal Dark Circles
Dark circles under your eyes can be caused by a combination of stress, lack of sleep and cold weather. Apply your foundation to your face then dab a concealer that is lighter than your base. Blend with your fingertips along your lash line and into the side of your nose. This disguises all those ghastly grey circles, making you presentable for the day ahead! But do remember to get your beauty sleep and have some time to relax as well!
We recommend: Ellis Faas Concealer $40

2) Long Lasting Lashes
We like the idea of mascara that is prone to rough winter conditions such as wind, rain and snow. A good waterproof mascara will promise to withstand these condition without flaking or smudging! It will also make your lashes look long and dashing under your winter coat!
We recommend: Benefit They’re Real! Mascara, $38

3) Brighten up with Bronzer
Red noses and blushing cheeks are a given in the wintertime. To brighten up your dull completion use a bronzer that helps counteract unwanted red flushes. You can also create an emulating look by using a highlighter. Get yourself a blush brush and tap the areas of your face that naturally pick up light such as your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Who said you can’t have a summer glow during the winter?!
We recommend: Too Faced Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer $30 | Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder $45 - $66

4) Luscious Lips
Our lips naturally lack in oil glands, making it easier for them to dry out in the winter weather. Chapped lips are not a good look! Use a lip exfoliator to rub over your lips, removing dry and flaky skin. Get into a routine of applying oil based lip balm every morning. This will leave your lips looking luscious and protected from the winter chill!
We recommend: Lush Kiss Lip Scrub $9.95 | Dior Addict Lip Glow $33

5) Hydrated Skin
It’s time to get to know your skin! Every skin type is different and reacts differently to the winter conditions. Some skin types can dry up quickly, others remain oily and I’m sure we’ve all battled the dreaded winter blemished skin! It’s important to find the right moisturizer for your skin type. Look for a moisturizer that contains ingredients such as rosehip, almond and tea tree oils, which helps aid long lasting skin repair.
We recommend: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream $26.50 - $46.50

Happy Winter lovely people!!!
